KINGSTON KORNER NEWSLETTER

Kingston Trio Continues with Bob Haworth

Cont'd from Page 7

soloists. We've just dropped the songs that Roger sang and we'll go on to things that Bobby Haworth does. We've had no chance to rehearse anything yet. We've just tried to keep the show going. What we really miss about Roger was his humor. He was such a fine humorist."

After playing with the Kingston Trio in Green Bay, Wisconsin, on April 19th, Bob Haworth flew to Seattle to fulfill his last concert commitment with the Brothers Four on April 20th. Then it was back to the Kingston Trio for a show in St. Louis on April 23rd, from there to Houston, Texas, and from there to future dates as shown in the itinerary on this page.

Bob Haworth was born in Spokane, Washington on October 9, 1946, which coincidentally makes him exactly one year to the day older than George Grove. From his earliest remembrances he had a fondness for music which led to his beginning to learn the guitar at age 10 and, after finishing high school, enrolling at UCLA as a music major where he sang with the UCLA Chorale under the direction of Robert Wagner. Weekend evenings were spent performing in clubs.

After two years at UCLA, in 1967 Bob moved to Oregon where he at-tended the University of Oregon and continued his musical education. But he had done enough live entertaining that it was in his blood, and he soon left school to pursue a career as an entertainer. After a short stint as a solo act, he joined the New Yorkers (a group that later became the Hudson Brothers) and recorded with them for Decca and Scepter for two years, leaving in 1969 to resume his solo career. A chance meeting with a business partner of the Brothers Four led him to join that group in 1971 as a replacement for Mark Pearson, and he can be heard on all of their records since that time. During off times from the Brothers Four he has continued to work as a single under the name "Bo Mooney", as well as performing and recording as part of a duet with his wife Mardi under the name "Mooney & Starz." They have a twelve-year-old son, Graham, whom Bob describes as a "budding musician."

We wish Bob well as he takes his place in the continuing saga of what has become a musical institution, The Kingston Trio.
