The Kingston Trio by Irene Franz
Rick Franz, Irene's husband, known to many of you Kingston Trio Place
message-board frequenters as "Frash," relates, "We were lucky enough to see the
Kingston Trio in concert in Woodstock, Illinois, last week. My wife, Irene, is a
professional caricature artist, and she created the attached piece of artwork
prior to Saturday's show. Bob, George and Bobby were kind enough to autograph it
for us, and they also each received a personal print."

SINGING THE SONGS THAT ARE FAVOURITES OF MINE
SUCH AS TO MORROW, TOM DOOLEY AND RUBY RED
YOUR FAVOURITE SCOTCH AND SODA AND OLD JOHN WEBB
THE LIST GOES ON AND ON TO MANY TO MENTION NOW
BUT I SHALL NEVER FORGET THESE SONGS NO HOW
AT FIRST THERE WAS DAVE , NICK AND OF COURSE YOU
THEN JOHN, ROGER, BOB AND GEORGE TO RECALL A FEW
ALL THESE LINE-UPS HAVE BEEN GREAT AND YOU SANG WELL
TOGETHER AND THE STANDARD'S HAS NEVER EVER FELL
YOU ALL SEEMED HAPPY TRAVELLING AROUND AS GOOD MATES
GOING FROM TOWN TO TOWN FULL FILLING ALL YOUR DATES
MY ONE WISH IS THAT TO ENGLAND YOU AGAIN WOULD COME
BECAUSE I'M SURE THAT OVER HERE YOU WOULD HAVE A LOT FUN
ON THIS YOUR BIRTHDAY TODAY I HOPE THE BEST OF HEALTH
LONG MAY YOU CONTINUE TO SING TO US WITH ALL THE WEALTH
WITH MUCH GUSTO, SPIRIT AND FEELING THAT I'M SURE YOU HAVE GOT
SO THAT WHEN YOU ARE ON THE STAGE YOU ARE IN THE BEST SPOT
FOR EVERY FAN TO ADMIRE YOUR TALENT STILL GOING VERY STRONG
THEN WE CAN BE SURE THAT YOU WILL SING GREAT, EVERY SONG

NICK REYNOLDS
THERE'S NO DOUBT THAT NICK
WAS AN ALL-TIME GREAT
JUST ASK BOB, GEORGE, JOHN, TO THEM HE WAS A GREAT MATE
NOW HE HAS RETIRED AND WE FANS WILL MISS HIM QUITE A LOT
BECAUSE FOR HIM WE KNOW WE ALWAYS HAD A SOFT SPOT
HE WAS IN THE GROUP WHEN THEY FIRST GOT STARTED GOING
ALONG WITH DAVE AND BOB, WE ENJOYED WHAT THEY WERE SINGING
"TOM DOOLEY" AND OTHER GREAT SONGS THAT FOLLOWED AFTER
SOME OF THESE SONGS HAD US ALL ROCKING WITH LAUGHTER
LIKE THE "BALLAD OF THE SHAPE OF THINGS" AND "LAREDO"
ENJOY YOUR SINGING I'M SURE WAS ALWAYS NICK'S CREDO
"HOBO'S LULLABY" THAT WAS NICK'S MOST FAVOURITE SONG
AND ANOTHER WAS "WHERE HAVE ALL THE FLOWERS GONE"
WE WISH HIM WELL NOW THAT HE HAS DECIDED TO RETIRE
THIS WILL GIVE PLENTY OF TIME WITH HIS FAMILY BY THE FIRE
TO ENJOY HIS LIFE AFTER A LONG TIME TRAVELLING AROUND
BUT I'M SURE WITH THE TRIO HE ALWAYS FELT SAFE AND SOUND
SO NICK, WE FANS HOPE LIFE WILL NOW BE HAPPY AND JOYOUS
AFTER ALL THE MANY HAPPY HOURS OF JOY YOU BROUGHT TO US

Happy Birthday George!
George, it's your birthday today, may it be your best day of the year
All Trio fans send you birthday greetings from far away and near
The time has come again for you to read the wishes on the cards
We'll put up the banners and bunting and streamers by the yard
To let the world know it's your special day today
Let's hope you're with your loved ones and not touring far away
If you're touring, you'll be in the company of two other greats
Who I expect without any doubts are among your best mates
Bob or Nick or Bobby H., will make it very special for you
And, your loved ones thoughts and love will be there with you too
I'm sure they wish you could be at home to celebrate
Unwrapping presents and presents and eating a ton of cake!
So from Trio fans all over the world, a rousing Happy Birthday!
And to you, George, young at fifty-two, we shout: Hip! Hip! Hoo-ray!
May you go on for years and years--a true great entertainer
And in our hearts your music and smile will always linger!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY GEORGE!

Rick Daly of Folk U.S.A. says, "It's my little buddy Mickey
emulating his Daddy. I thought it a good idea when I first started
teaching him to play, but now he wants a Vega Pete Seeger like
I have. There's no making kids happy these day."
Rick, let me add this, I'll bet he could show us all a good lick or two! Ken - K3P
Reed Blair says, "a little something I put together
which Bob Shane really
enjoyed. In fact, he asked me for a few more copies."
THE KINGSTON TRIO
THE KINGSTON TRIO ARE MY FAVOURITE GROUP OF ALL TIME
AS A GROUP THEY'VE ALWAYS BEEN AT TOP OF THE LINE
NO ONE HAS EVER COME NEAR TO THEM FOR MUSICAL STYLE
AND THEY HAVE BEATEN ALL THE OTHERS BY MANY A MILE
WHOMEVER WAS IN THE LINE-UP, THE PERFORMANCE WAS THE TOP
STILL THEY GO ON, THE BEST THERE IS IN ANY MUSIC SHOP
THE SONGS THEY HAVE SUNG HAVE MADE US HAPPY AND SAD
BUT WE LIKED THEM ALL AND FOR THIS WE ARE ALL GLAD
THAT THEY GOT TOGETHER ALL THOSE MANY YEARS AGO
AND AS THE BEST MUSIC FROM THEM ALWAYS DID FLOW
IT STARTED WITH TOM DOOLEY AND OTHER GREAT ONES FOLLOWED
SCOTCH AND SODA, SOUTH COAST, ZOMBIE JAMBOREE AND RUBY RED
AND WE ALL HAVE OUR OWN FAVOURITES THAT WE LIKE TO HEAR
MEMORIES OF THESE GREAT SONGS WILL NEVER DIE, NO FEAR
THE TRIO HAVE HAD A TRIUMPHANT AND GLITTERING CAREER
MANY GROUPS HAVE FOLLOWED AND HAVE NOT GOT ANYWHERE NEAR
THE STANDARD'S SET BY THE TRIO AND EVER THEY WILL
SOME OF THE GROUPS NEVER QUITE MADE IT UP THAT HILL
SO TO THE KINGSTON TRIO ON BEHALF OF ALL FANS EVERYWHERE
TO YOU WE SAY THANK YOU AND ARE GLAD THAT YOU ARE HERE!
ALL THE BEST,
DENIS BYROM - UK
